How to Consign at Pennywise / FAQ
- We accept items Monday through Friday from 9:30 to 4:00. We do not accept items on weekends or holidays. Also, we are occasionally unable to accept items because we are overstocked. It is always a good idea to call before making the trip.
- The consignor receives 50% of the selling price after the item sells. Items are on display for approximately 6-8 weeks. All items that do not sell during this time are automatically donated; we do not hold any items to be returned to consignors.
- Checks are issued any time during business hours Monday through Friday. No advanced notice is required. Store credit can be used seven days a week at both Pennywise and Pennywise Downtown.
- We accept only name brand and designer items (please see most popular brands below). We do not accept items from lower-end department stores such as Walmart, Kohls, JCPenny, etc.
- Items must be clean and aired out if they have been stored in mothballs or in a home in which cigarette smoke is present.
- We accept jewelry year-round. This includes vintage, sterling silver, gold, semi-precious stones, and costume.
- We accept shoes that are in like-new condition.
- We accept purses as long as they are name brand or designer and of current styles.
- We do not accept items that are out-of-date, ripped or stained.
- We do not accept items that are not currently in season. As soon as you see the new season in stores, we begin accepting it on consignment. We stop accepting items for the season before the season is over to allow time to clearance them out. If you are unsure, please call to confirm what season we are currently accepting.
- We do not accept any knock-offs or replicas.
FAQs About Consigning at Pennywise
Do I have to make an appointment to bring my items in?
We do not require an appointment. We accept items Monday through Friday from 9:30am to 4:00pm, excluding holidays.
Do I need to call ahead of time if I wish to pick up a check?
We issue checks any time during business hours. No need to call ahead of time.
What brands do you accept?
We accept name brands and designer items only. We do not accept items from lower-end department stores. Please refer to our "Best Selling Brands" list in the right sidebar of this window.
Do you only accept items that are considered "in season"?
As soon as you begin to see items for the coming season being sold in stores, we start accepting them for consignment. For example, we begin accepting Spring items in February and Summer items in April. We stop accepting for the current season prior to the end of the season in order to allow time to clearance the items out. If you are unsure, please feel free to call to inquire about which items we are currently accepting.
Do you accept gowns?
No, we do not accept gowns or any formal wear.
Do you accept maternity clothing?
No, we do not accept maternity clothing.
Do you accept men's clothing?
We accept men's clothing, but only casual items. We do not accept suits or blazers. We mainly sell younger men's brands (JCrew, Banana Republic, Abercrombie, Hollister, etc.).
Do you accept knock-off or imitation items?
We do not accept any imitation items. All items must be authentic. If we have any doubt regarding the authenticity of an item, we cannot accept them.
Is it free to consign?
Yes, it is 100% free to consign. There are no fees to open an account and there are no per-item fees.
Can checks be mailed to consignors?
If you cannot make it in to the store to pick up a check, you may call Pennywise and request that a check be mailed to you. There is a $1.00 fee to mail a check.
How can you tell which items are mine?
Each consignor is given an account number which is applied to each item he/she consigns. As the items sell, the account number and price are entered into our database.
Are consignors notified when an item of their sells?
No, we do not contact you when an item sells. The number of consignors and item sold per day are too large for us to contact each consignor when their items sell. Consignors may call, e-mail or stop by Pennywise any time during business hours with any questions regarding their items/accounts.
Are items that do not sell held and returned to the consignor?
We do not hold any items. Items that do not sell in approximately 8 weeks are clearanced out and donated.
To whom are unsold items donated?
We do not donate to organizations that re-sell items. For 15 years, we have been working with a woman who distributes to homeless shelters, womens shelters and families-in-need. Items go directly to those who need them.
